UNIFEMM was founded in 1966, as a result of the pioneering spirit of people who wanted to expand access to education for underprivileged youth in Sete Lagoas, with the creation of the Monsenhor Messias Educational Foundation - FEMM. A terrain measuring about 145 thousand square feet was donated, and this terrain the university campus was built. What started with the offer of scholarships, over time, became an even more challenging and innovative mission: in 1969 the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters was inaugurated with Science (Mathematics), Literature courses , Pedagogy and Social Studies (History and Geography), confirming the tendency proposed by its founders to foster education with teacher training. And this was only the beginning of a journey that led UNIFEMM to become a regional reference in higher education.

Unifemm is the largest University Center in Sete Lagoas and region with the most complete university infrastructure and the largest number of courses recognized with a 4 concept by MEC (Federal Education Agency) on a scale ranging from 1 to 5.

The FEMM Statute and Rules of Procedure are instruments that regulate all issues related to the operation of the Monsenhor Messias Educational Foundation, and continue as a guide for the consolidation of its management.
